SpecSeal® SSS Intumescent Sealant – Two-Stage Latex-Based Firestop Compound

SpecSeal® SSS Intumescent Sealant is a latex-based, high solids firestop compound featuring STI’s patented and proprietary two-stage intumescent technology. Ready-to-use with a unique multi-viscosity formula, this single component sealant provides excellent caulking properties and high build capabilities on vertical or overhead surfaces, effectively sealing penetration openings against fire, smoke, hot gases, and water.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Two-stage intumescent technology – extremely fast and directionalized expansion for superior protection
  • Water-based formula – easy installation, cleanup, and disposal with minimal environmental impact
  • Endothermic fillers – absorb heat and release water for enhanced fire protection
  • High solids formula – minimal shrinkage with 79.2% solids content by weight
  • Sandable and paintable – allows seamless finishing when dry
  • Water-resistant – will not re-emulsify when dry for long-term durability
  • Safe for plastic contact – contains no solvents that adversely affect plastic pipes or cable jackets
  • Multi-viscosity grade – excellent caulking properties with high build capabilities
  • Red color identification – easy identification and inspection compliance
  • Non-halogenated formula – safe composition with no asbestos, PCBs, or inorganic fibers
  • LEED™ v3 compliant – meets low emitting materials credit requirements

Applications & Penetration Types

Metallic Penetrations

  • Large metallic pipes – tested for penetrants up to 36″ (914mm) trade size
  • Steel, iron, copper pipes – comprehensive coverage for metal piping systems
  • Copper tubing – plumbing and HVAC applications through all common constructions

Non-Metallic Penetrations

  • PVC, CPVC, PVDF pipes – plastic piping systems and conduits
  • PEX and PEX-AL-PEX – flexible tubing for water supply systems
  • ABS and PB pipes – drainage and specialty piping applications

Multi-Service Penetrations
